Then there is the oil pipeline that extends from the oil rich region of Iraq and Syria through Turkey into Europe. Until 2015 Turkey had been stealing oil from Syria and wants to return to the practice.

Israel has a long border with Syria. Assad’s friendship with Iran is problematic for Israel, as Iran has sworn to eliminate the Great Satan. ISIS is Sunni but Israel would prefer that to the Iran friendly Assad. Israel also wants the US to become more involved in their current war with the Palestinians and has been known to incite this.
